ACC Names Snyder as VP of Workforce Development

(November 7, 2022) – Alamance Community College has named Justin Snyder as its new Vice President of Workforce Development. Snyder, whose tenure begins January 1, will replace the retiring Gary Saunders.

In his new position with Workforce Development, Snyder will oversee the college’s many short-term, non-credit, non-degree courses and programs that meet the needs of a diverse adult community.

Snyder has been employed at ACC since 2003, when he took the reins as Department Head of Horticulture Technology. Over a span of 14 years, he reinvented and expanded the department, turning it into an award-winning program that saw its enrollment grow. During Snyder’s tenure, Horticulture students designed multiple garden projects that won blue and red ribbons at the NC State Fair. Most impressive, Horticulture students have annually competed successfully against university students at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition at sites across the U.S. In 2018, Snyder arranged for the ACC campus to host this important week-long competition that brought hundreds of horticulture and landscaping students to the college.

In 2017, Snyder was appointed Dean of Industrial Technologies (now Applied Engineering, Agriculture & Skilled Trades). As Dean, he expanded curriculum programs, increased enrollment, enhanced external partnerships  including apprenticeships, assisted in the acquisition and early development of the 47-acre Bill and Nancy Covington Education Center, partnered with Workforce Development and Corporate Education to increase non-credit course offerings, and implemented creative programming such as Draft Day, Signing Day, and Made in Alamance. Snyder also holds numerous memberships in many community organizations.

“I look forward to working with the existing team in the Workforce Development division to foster growth for both Alamance Community College and Alamance County,” said Snyder. “Through workforce development, we serve students from all over our community. Regardless if you are working towards a GED, looking for a credential to secure a job, are already in a career and need recertification credit, or are just looking for personal enrichment courses, our goal is to provide those opportunities. I am honored to be part of the team that meets the needs of our community.”
