The goal of ACC’s Public Safety Department is to make everyone feel safe while using
the College’s facilities. The ACC Public Safety Department provides services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Department of Public Safety is founded on a philosophy that advocates a proactive
rather than a reactive approach to the safety of our campus community. In meeting
this approach, the campus Public Safety Department has made a safety brochure available
to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. It is of the utmost importance that everyone
understands that maintaining a safe environment depends on the involvement and cooperation
of the entire community, including you. Safety for students, faculty, and staff is
maintained through existing campus policies, procedures, and the deployment of a trained
Public Safety staff.
Public Safety officers’ duties typically include promoting crime prevention, checking
fire equipment, providing safety escorts, actively patrolling hallways, parking lots,
and public areas, and monitoring all campus activities. Officers are equipped with
communication equipment that places them in direct contact with one another and local
law enforcement agencies. Public Safety officers are selected based on leadership
characteristics and the ability to act responsibly on duty. The Public Safety Department
is designed to provide additional safety to students, faculty, staff, and visitors
on campus.
