Payment Policy
A student account is considered to be fully registered for a semester when one or more of the following criteria has been met:
- Balance has been paid in full and the student account shows a balance of $0.00 for the term.
- Sufficient pending Financial Aid to cover the cost of qualified tuition and fees, as shown in Self-Service.
- Sponsorship is on file with the Business Office and any remaining balance left on the account has been paid.
- A payment plan has been set up and verified, with the opening charges having been paid in full.
Refund Policy -- Tuition
The college will adhere to State Government Policies regarding the refunding of student tuition and fees:
- 100% of tuition and fees will be refunded if the student withdraws prior to the first day of the academic semester, as noted in the Calendar.
- 100% of tuition and fees will be refunded if the student is enrolled in a course that is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
- 75% of tuition will be refunded if the student officially withdraws from classes prior to or on the 10% point of the semester.
Should a student, having paid the required tuition for a term, die during that term (prior to or on the last day of examinations), all tuition and fees for that semester may be refunded to the estate of the deceased. This is state policy, as stated in the North Carolina Administrative Code, Chapter 23 2D.0202.
Military Refund Policy
Upon the request of the student, the College will:
- Grant a full refund of tuition and registration fees to military reserve and National Guard personnel called to active duty or active-duty personnel who have received temporary or permanent reassignments as a result of military operations that make it impossible for them to complete their course requirements;
- Buy back textbooks through the College’s bookstore operations to the extent allowable under the College’s buy back procedures;
- Utilize distance learning technologies and other educational methodologies, to the extent possible as determined by the College, to help active-duty military students, under the guidance of faculty and administrative staff, complete their course requirements.
Business Office Holds
Business Office Holds are placed on student accounts with an outstanding, past-due balance. Current students can see their balances in their Self-Service account. Former students can contact the Cashier’s Office to find out their outstanding balance.
Failure to pay accounts may result in a hold on the account that would prevent the following:
- The ability to register for future courses at Alamance Community College in a curriculum or continuing education program.
- Receipt of Diploma
- Access to grades
Over a 90-day period, the Cashier and Student Accounts Office will mail 2 debt collection notification letters to students who owe a balance. This process allows ample time for students to pay their balance or make satisfactory payment arrangements before being placed with a collection agency and/or the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Once a debt has been placed with a collection agency and/ or The North Carolina Department of Revenue, it will remain with them until the debt has been paid in full.
