Have a love for technology and computers? Join one of the fastest growing fields in the industry. The Information Technology (IT) curriculum prepares graduates for employment in the technology sector as designers, testers, support technicians, system administrators, developers, or programmers who use computer software and/or hardware to design, process, implement and manage information systems in specialties such as database services, security, business intelligence, healthcare informatics, bioinformatics, and others depending on the technical path selected within this curriculum.

 

We are quickly becoming a model of growth and success for IT education. Having industry partnerships with companies such as IBM, CISCO and other local IT businesses, we are poised to prepare students for successful employment in Graham/Burlington and surrounding areas including Raleigh, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. Not only that, but the foundation we instill in our students prepares them for success as IT professionals anywhere in the nation or world.

Students will learn about Windows and Linux system administration, Cisco Routing & Switching, cyber exploits and methods of mitigation, and technology crimes and law. Concrete skills such as router and switch configuration, device hardening, cybercrime investigation techniques, and security policy design are emphasized.

Graduates of this program should be able to:

  • Develop an information technology security policy for an organization.
  • Prototype and troubleshoot a network topology using a network simulation tool.
  • Develop and execute a Linux shell script to automate an administrative task.
  • Ability to perform analysis (with the 5-tuple) to analyze a packet relative to packet flow.
  • Give a professional, technical presentation pertaining to information technology.

Alamance Community College is proud to announce that, effective June 5, 2020, its A.A.S. degree in Information Technology-Systems Security (Cybersecurity) has been officially designated a National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) program of study.
