(November 1, 2023) – Alamance Community College (ACC) has announced Bettina Akukwe as the new Associate Vice President of Corporate Education and Economic Development. She began her duties on November 1.
The Corporate Education and Economic Development division is responsible for business and industry training for area companies that need to upskill their workforce in areas such as safety, leadership development, process improvement, and soft skills. It also provides certification courses including Lean Six Sigma courses that allow graduates to implement process improvement and cost saving projects at their companies.
Akukwe began her career at ACC as the Apprenticeship Implementer in 2018. She most recently served as the Department Head of Workforce Programs, overseeing apprenticeships, work-based learning, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) advising duties.
Akukwe has grown the College’s apprenticeship programs from seven employer partners in 2018 to 47 partners today. She has also served recently as Site Lead for ACC’s Aligning the Workforce and Education Systems for Manufacturing (AWESM) program. In addition she is the program manager for Opportunity Alamance, and Program Director for Alamance Juvenile Opportunity Bridge (AJOB).
Akukwe has secured and manages over three-quarter of a million dollars in grants for the college, all related to workforce development.
Before joining the College, Akukwe was employed as a Senior Project Coordinator at the Institute for Educational Quality Improvement in Berlin, Germany.
