Alamance Community College (ACC) is a benefactor of a $12,000 Community Grant awarded by North Carolina’s America 250 NC initiative to celebrate the United States’ keynote birthday celebration in 2026.

The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources’ America 250 NC initiative recently dispersed nearly $900,000 in grant funds across 34 counties in the state. The grant program is designed to spark commemoration programs and activities on a local level through 2026 when the country will commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the development of a new nation.

ACC’s History Department will utilize the funding to bring 250th anniversary-related activities and speakers on campus over the next two years, according to Sherri Singer, Department Head of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Singer has served as chief facilitator for many grant-supported history activities available to the public on the ACC campus.

“These America 250 grants will serve as catalysts for local participation in the nationwide commemoration of our nation’s founding,” said DNCR Secretary Reid Wilson. “We look forward to working with communities across the state to build a memorable and meaningful celebration for all North Carolinians.”
