1. What is a full-time course load?
Twelve semester hours is considered full-time. However, if you plan to complete a degree in two years (not counting the summer semester) you would need to take more than 12 hours each semester. Should you need developmental courses or take only 12 hours per semester, your degree may take more than two years to complete.
2. Am I required to meet with an advisor?
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Advisor. It is important to meet with an advisor to ensure you are in the correct program of study and that you are taking the appropriate classes. Advisors can also assist with valuable information about registration and resources available to you.
3. When should I see my advisor?
Advising can take place anytime during the year, but it is best to meet with your Advisor as early as possible. Be sure to meet with your Advisor before registering for classes each semester.
4. Do I need an appointment to see an advisor?
You should. You may be able to stop by your faculty advisor’s office and find them available but scheduling an appointment ensures a specific time.
5. How do I register for classes?
After meeting with an Academic Advisor, you can register for classes online through Self- Service. Once you log into to your account and click “Academics,” you will see a section titled “Student Planning”.Here you can search for courses, plan your terms, and schedule and register your course sections. You can also stop by the Student Success Center for Self-Service.
6. How do I change my program?
It is best to meet with an academic advisor before changing your program. The Change of Student Information form is available online on the Student Forms page. To submit a completed form, please email it to admissions-records@alamancecc.edu. Once the change is processed, you will be assigned a new advisor within your new program. Check Self-Service under “Student Planning” and then click “Plan & Schedule” and then click on the “Advising” tab to locate your advisor’s contact information.
A grade of “D” will not transfer to community colleges or any four year colleges or universities.
