HONORS PROGRAM
Mission Statement
The core mission of the Alamance Community College Honors Program is to provide students eager for advanced studies and those with untapped potential with a transformative learning experience that promotes critical thinking, community engagement, and academic exploration.

Complete and submit the Honors Program Application. Please note that students applying to the honors program must already be admitted to ACC.
Files needed for your application:
1. One letter of recommendation: The person writing the letter of support should email or mail the
recommendation directly to the Honors Program Coordinator (see contact information
below). The letter needs to address the student’s previous and potential academic
performance. Areas of focus should address the student’s written, verbal, and critical
thinking skills.
2. Applicants need to write a 250-400 word essay and submit it with their application: Please select and submit an essay that addresses one of the following topics:
- Describe a project or experience that has influenced your interest in academics.
- Describe a challenging situation in your life and how you overcame it.
- Describe a creative project you have completed and what you learned from it.
3. Additional information (optional): Please provide any additional information that highlights your qualifications that are not reflected in your essay. This should be submitted along with your essay.
Students can be admitted to the honors program in either the fall or spring semester. Students can submit an application by the third week of each semester to the Honors Program Coordinator.
Students who have not applied to the honors program should do so if they wish to take honors courses. Students should be approved to take honors courses before a project is finalized between the student and instructor.
- Have a College program GPA of 3.2 after completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours, OR
- Have status as an Early College student with an unweighted GPA of 3.2 and Principal recommendation, OR
- Have an overall high school unweighted GPA of 3.2, OR
- Have completed the GED or HiSET with a designation of “college ready”, OR
- Have completed ENG-111 with a final grade of A or B
- Have an ACT composite score of 23.
