ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION (ELA)
The ELA program helps adults whose first language is not English to improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students may also choose to prepare for the US citizenship test.
Classes are held at the main Carrington-Scott (Graham) campus, at the Dillingham Center (Burlington), and community sites throughout Alamance County. Students may enter ELA courses at any time after an initial intake appointment and progress at their own pace.
All ELA classes are FREE, and free childcare is provided at some locations.
ELA programs are also available through distance education.
New Integrated Education and Training Courses Available: These classes are designed to support students by improving language and academic skills while completing occupational training. Available classes change each semester but have included Cosmetology and HVAC. Call for current options. Costs may be associated with this program.
For more information about ELA classes or to enroll, contact our intake desk at (336) 506-4380 or email ELA Intake.
Students who complete ELA have several options for transition:
- enroll in our High School Equivalency program
- enroll in our English for Professional Development
- enroll in EFL, ACC’s new for credit classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages to prepare for college-level coursework in English. These courses are tuition-based and run every academic semester. Students interested in EFL must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
